Leapin' and Humpin'

Rachel here. Hopefully you caught on that today is Leap Day and also Hump Day... otherwise my title would be all kinds of inappropriate. :) We just got back from the baby doctor... and by "we" I mean EG and myself. We're partners in baby appointment crime. It was as uneventful as usual. I'm up 1 lb from two weeks ago. I was having some random pain in my upper right leg. I thought it was perhaps my sciatic nerve... but I learned that that usually effects the back part of the leg... so that's a no go. It hurt for 2 days and then went away as quickly as it came. There have been all kinds of random pains, swellings, numbness this go round. Such fun. Everything looks great though, and I'm measuring a week small. Next visit... March 15th.
Reese is going through a funk. Or maybe it just feels like it because I'm uber emotional and change moods more than I change the channel on the tv. Last week, while in Iowa, really threw her routine off and that is NEVER good for us. It's been better since she's been back at preschool, but every little thing she does gets to me. At times I feel like I don't get nearly enough sleep to deal with her shenanigans. Hopefully with starting preschool/homeschool again, her little hands and mind will be busy and all will be harmonious again. I also have a girls' weekend getaway next weekend, so hopefully my emotions will be rejuvenated, and I can once again be pleasant. :)
Emma Grace is officially pull up free. She's gone months wearing a pull up just to bed at night with only a couple of accidents. We've now gone about 2ish weeks WITHOUT them at night... just undies, and zero accidents. I'm so proud of her. Potty training has been a breeze with these two... I'm so thankful!

I'll have fun pictures of Baby Boo tomorrow once we get home from our 3D/4D.

And lastly... my Wednesday installment of our new routine:
700-800 Morning routine
800-845 Puzzles/books/free Montessori time

Potty Training... the Next Generation...

Hello people! Emma Grace here. I'm proud to announce Baby is potty training! She's doing a great job too. Baby is very good at letting me know when she has to potty, I run to Mommy so she can help take her undies off, and then we run run run to the potty. What a good girl!I'm doing fantastically as well. I'm doing all my shenanigans on the potty and haven't had an accident all week! I've been dry during nap times since before I started training, but Mommy still makes me wear a pull up JUST IN CASE. My bedtime pull up is also almost always dry in the morning as well. SO EXCITING! :)

PT update...

Rachel here. Our little Emma Grace is about 90% potty trained. :) She wears underpants now all day except for nap time and bedtime, and she uses the potty when she has to... on her own terms. We've run errands with her in her underpants (we do find ourselves asking her like every 5 minutes if she has to go though... just in case), and she wore them all day at Jackson's birthday party... nevermind her pulling them down in the middle of the animal show. :) She has an occasional accident... poop... due to stalling and then it being too late to make it to the potty. That'll come. Nonetheless we're so proud of our little Emma Grace!

Chickity China... the Chinese Chicken...

It's been one week, since we began potty training... as of yesterday morning anyway. Rachel here. Emma Grace is a rock star. She's now wearing underpants (she takes them off and pulls them back on by herself) all day (except for nap/bed time)... and besides Steppin' Out/Sam's Club, we have yet to venture out into the wild world of the public. I imagine we'll be wearing Pull Ups out for a little bit longer before we commit to public underpants. I've quit pumping her full of liquids now that she can feel and understand the urge to go. One amazing thing to me is her ability to poop on the potty. I remember Reese being beyond traumatized when she needed to go. Obviously it all worked out... and this time without tears. :)Sunday EG had another day of no accidents! Yesterday she wore undies all day and had no accidents until about 7:15... right before bedtime... in the bathroom... right in front of her potty! Poor thing... missed it by seconds. Yay to seeing the light at the end of the Emma Grace diaper tunnel! On another note, I've deactivated my Facebook account... and it feels so good. I've had enough. Some people post the most ridiculous things... dramatic events of their love life... amongst other things. I used it so my family/friends could see pictures of the girls... especially my family. It was also a great way to keep up with old friends. I began by deleting all the people who were too dramatic, then went the people I was simply stalking, then those that actually weren't my friends (friends of friends), and then went people I don't interact with much. I was left with 69 people. It was awesome. But then there were more I wanted to delete but didn't want people's feelings to get hurt... how ridiculous... so then I just deactivated the whole thing. The people that I would love to hear from my have phone number or my email address... or they know about my blog, so I feel good about my decision. Truth is Bryan and I have very limited time together when it's just the two of us... it just made sense to get rid of the things that were taking my attention away from that small amount of precious time. I won't lie... it's very freeing! I've also quit looking at my horrible gossip sites. I'd rather pay more attention to the ridiculous things going on in my own house than in the thirty mile zone. The End. :)

Potty Training... DAY 6

Rachel here. Yesterday was another great day in the wonderful world of potty training. EG peed and pooped on the potty 4 times! I was a little worried about yesterday because we were out and about all day. She wore a pull up the entire time and highly enjoyed watching me run to snatch her up each time she said that she had to go. After peeing once at home before we left, she didn't go again until well after lunch time (she fell asleep in the car and went). She also went in her pull up on the way home from SAM's after telling us she needed to go and me thinking she was fibbing. Lesson learned. Once upon returning home though she racked up the extra stickers and had a small pee accident right before bed. Emma Grace even went pee on the potty at SAM'S Club (it was their free pass weekend... we don't have a membership, so we definitely took advantage)! Now if we can just get her to actually go on the potty the first time she tells us and not 5 times before she actually does. This was the situation when we were out to lunch yesterday. We must have visited the Rivermill potty (not a clean child friendly potty by any stretch of the imagination) 6 times... and she never went. Oy. On another note... yesterday we ventured down to Steppin' Out (a local annual crafty festival... loads of fun) to check out this year's merchandise. Each girl had $15 to spend... EG wanted nothing to do with any of it except a free balloon she got from the bank, and Reese picked this little number. Meet Hasher the new family puppy. Hasher is sometimes a boy, and sometimes a girl... mostly a girl. She walks and barks... so intriguing. And I won't lie... she might be a little cute... but just a little. Reese was very concerned yesterday that Hasher would be sleeping in the dark dank corner of her closet... so out came the hot glue gun, cardboard boxes, and scrapbooking paper to the rescue. It was worth it though because Hasher is already housebroken. :)

Potty Training... DAY 5

Rachel here. Today was amazing. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Emma Grace not only peed on the potty 3 times (once in time out!), but she also pooped on the potty twice. She did awesome! She's really enjoying doing her flashcard games while she's contemplating doing the deed. It's nice Mommy/Emma Grace bonding time. See that little sticker at the end there... yeah that one right there... she got that one because I didn't have to clean up a single potty mess today. Today was amazing.

On another note. Emma Grace has really bad hair. Really bad hair... bless her heart. ;)

Potty Training... Day 4

Rachel here. We'll start our potty training tale with the late hours of last night. Emma Grace woke up shortly after I went to bed... "poo poos Mommy!" I raced into her room... she had already gone. No biggie. We changed her diaper, gave her some meds (both girls have fevers), kissed her good night, and put her back to bed. She woke up 3-4 more times to tell me she had to go poo poos. While I love that EG feels the need to wake up and announce to the world of her potty endeavors, she's also learned to use it to her advantage and cry wolf. For example... if she doesn't like her dinner... "I go poo poos Mommy!" Or... when she is in timeout... "I go poo poos Mommy! Hurry!" It's getting old, but I'm trying to stick with her, and the potty now ventures into timeout with her. :) Since she peed last night, she woke up this morning dry... great start to the day.

I once again gave her plenty of milk and watered down juice. I can tell when she needs to go because she starts looking at her business and looking at me. After about two or three times of asking her if she had to go and her saying no, she began to pee a little. I immediately yelled "NOOOOO... HOLD IT!" (not meanly... just excitedly). She IMMEDIATELY stopped, I picked her up, and she finished on the potty... and boy was it a lot. Emma Grace also managed to poop on the potty all by herself. I was doing the dishes, and she came in and told me she had gone. So proud of her.

After nap time she woke up with a wet pull up, and didn't need to go potty again until right before bedtime. She went on the potty, we got her jammies on, I put her to bed, and about 5 minutes later... "poo poos Mommy!" I ran in there, and she had already gone pee in her diaper. We're getting there... slowly... but surely. :)On another note. I fixed the karaoke machine. It had been living in our garage for the last 6 years... having not been used since before we were married. One of the microphones was on the fritz, so I switched the two from their current outlets and voila. Reese rocked out hardcore, and then Emma Grace somehow broke it again. :-/ I can't get the cd portion to work at all... it may be finding a new home at the YMCA after all.On YET ANOTHER note... the apparent gunman situation on campus today gave me a real fright. Bryan called me from work (he happened to be working across the street from campus) and told me they were on lock down. The words lock down makes me shake... literally. I got immediately tense, locked all the doors, and attempted to prepare myself for the worst. I hate that, but it's something I can't help. Not much was found out in the end. Many police departments searched all of campus... top to bottom. They were on lock down for nearly 6 hours, and the "gunman" wasn't spotted. Hopefully a mountain was made out of a mole hill, and thankfully I'll be able to sleep tonight. It's a shame what the world has come to when you're not even safe in your homes... or in a classroom... or even a church for that matter. It just reminds me to continue to teach the girls kindness, love, and awareness... and hope for the best. Oy vey.

Potty Training... DAY 3

Rachel here. Day 3 began with a full diaper of all kinds of goodness. At least I know she's not refusing to go poop... I'd never forgive myself. I once again filled her little belly with tons of liquids... only to decide to head to the grocery store. Because we've been out of town so much, we're literally eating on random pantry food... I was beginning to have "real food" withdrawal. Emma Grace wore a pull up out and about and kept it dry literally until we were walking up to the front door of the house. She didn't go again until nap time... where she was in another pull up. After nap, she had an accident outside (I forgot to take the potty outside with us... totally my bad), and then she peed on the potty twice. She's super cute when she has to go... "gotta go poo poos (it's always poo poos...)... hurry Mommy... hurry!" She's getting there... slowly but surely. I couldn't be more proud of her. I'm willing to stick with this as much as humanly possible. If we're home, she's naked. We're in town for the next two weeks, so I'm hoping we can get into a solid routine in that time frame. She's so proud of herself when she makes it to the potty... when she doesn't, she says "uh oh Mommy... I poo poos." Tomorrow is another day!On another note... I've seen this idea numerous places but truly fell in love with the idea after our trip to the Portsmouth Children's Museum in early June. They have a grocery store section of the museum where they've collected empty food containers for children to pretend to shop. If only our playroom was bigger! I have big dreams for our new house, and so I've slowly started to collect "fun" containers. Thanks Gma Nita for the "Spic 'n' Span!"
The fun thing about some of these particular items is I was able to fill them... the pasta box has the bow tie pasta and ravioli I made Reese for Christmas last year... she thought this was hilarious.
We also filled the egg carton and "Country Crock" with pretend egg paraphernalia and slabs of wooden butter. I need to figure out how to make a play pantry because seriously... the girls have more kitchen stuff that one family should have... and it's growing! :)

Potty Training... DAY 2

Rachel here. Holy freckles... Day 2 is done. Today wasn't horrible... we spent most of the day like this...
Okay, not exactly like that, but it's a funny picture. ;) EG woke up with a wet diaper this morning... no biggie... sometimes it's wet... sometimes it's dry. She drank like a fish, but "didn't have to" use the potty... intriguing. I knew she woke up timid about using the potty this morning and was holding it. It wasn't until about 11ish that I found a huge pee puddle in the middle of the kitchen floor. We talked about pee needing to go in the potty and went on about our morning. I pumped her full of more liquids and nothing. She went through lunch, I put her down for nap, and I hopped in the shower. Upon getting out of the shower, I heard her over the monitor saying she had to go pee pee. I ran in there, and she was naked... I left her in a pull up... bum bum bum. After checking the bed for wetness, putting her on the potty for a few minutes, and finding her pull up... wet... I put her in a new pull up, and she went to sleep. She woke up after nap and peed in the potty TWICE... one of which was in the middle of dinner... SO PROUD! No poop today, so I know she'll wake up with a gift. :)Daily "on another note". We used the girls new M&D place mats. They loved them. Sadly there isn't a bowl section, so the girls tomato soup is not pictured. ;) Happy Tuesday!

Potty Training... DAY 1

Rachel here. Today I officially began potty training Emma Grace. She went all day naked except for nap/bedtime (nap... pull up/bedtime... diaper). If she went pee, she got to choose between an M&M or a marshmallow... ... and if she went poop, she got one of each. She also got a sticker for her sticker chart (which I found online).I had 3 full fledged pee accidents to clean up, 1 half potty half accident (she was peeing on the potty, got super excited, and jumped off in the middle of going!), and 3 full fledged going on the potty... one of which was POOP! I couldn't be more proud of her, and I'm super excited to get going tomorrow. On another note... for dinner tonight I cooked green beans... from our very own garden!Unfortunately I didn't cook them all the way... but Reese ate them anyway. :)

2 azziz old..

Rachel here. While I realize my sweet girl has been 2 for over a month now, we just had her 2 year appointment a little over a week ago. Her current stats are: weight... 28 lbs, height... 36.75 inches, and a big ole head. :) She's in 2T clothing and size 4 diapers. I've been collecting Reese's fall clothes for school and decided to pull out the 3T clothes for EG... sadly I think they'll fit her like a glove. :( She's just growing so quickly. When she first turned 2 and we asked her how old she was, she would say "I 2 azziz old and I going up!" It was the cutest thing I think I've ever heard a toddler say, so of course we asked her to say it 35,000 times... and now... nothing. She simply smiles at us. Stinker. The doc also gave us the go ahead on fluoride toothpaste... now I get to hold her down to brush her teeth with Toy Story toothpaste. :)

Emma Grace has quite the personality. Sometimes fantastic... sometimes horribly rotten. She gives the sweetest kisses, and to hear her say I love you could make you melt. While I'm sure Reese was a stinker at this age as well (she was a slapper... by the end of the day I wanted to cry... she had a mean slap to the cheek), Emma Grace has come into her own when it comes to the Terrible Two's. She's a hitter, pincher, screamer, and most horribly... a hair puller. While she loves to pinch me, Reese has become her number one target. Poor Reese... while she still has an occasional whiny spell... she's turning in to such a lovely child. It's definitely taught me to stick to my guns, follow through, and keep on keepin' on when it comes to parenting... no matter how frustrating it can be. Emma Grace will pull her hair, Reese will scream and cry... and just sit there... no retaliation. While I'm beyond grateful that Reese doesn't believe in an eye for an eye... I do. If Emma Grace pinches or pulls hair... I do it back to her. She used to be a biter, but a couple episodes of me biting her back worked like a charm. I can tell she's already begun to think twice before grabbing a handful of Reese's golden locks. On any given day you can find Emma Grace in timeout more often than not, but we're working on it. I love her so much it hurts... even through her naughty spells.

Emma Grace is a quirky little thing. She loves loves loves "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" with all of her being. With the weather being completely unbearable most days, we watch them quite often. She says "oopsie daisy", loves to follow Reese around aimlessly, enjoys playing with baby dolls and Barbies, and rarely has laundry because she's naked a good 12 hours of the day. This has proven to be a blessing because she's begun potty training. We have her potty set up in the living room, a seat on the large potty downstairs, and a second potty in the bathroom upstairs. While we started rocky... a couple of accidents here and there... she's really begun taking it seriously and is so proud of herself when she goes. While Reese was an m&m girl, Emma Grace prefers marshmallows... and we start her sticker chart Monday. YAY! She, however, will not poop on the potty yet. There have been a couple of those wonderful accidents so far, but she's pretty good at hinting to us that she needs to go and requests a diaper to do the deed.

HOLY SHENANIGANS... she's turning into a kid.

20 months

Rachel here. So sweet girl turned 20 months February 19th, and I'm just getting around to posting about it. The motivation in these parts is SERIOUSLY lacking. I'm blaming the weather. ;) Back to Emma Grace. I'm constantly FLOORED at what this kid can do and say. Unsure of how much she's weighing in at these days as we don't have her appointment until she officially turns 2. YES I SAID 2! CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE IT?! As far as I'm concerned, I just had this little thing yesterday... or maybe it was almost 2 years ago. And of course I'm already working on birthday ideas and themes. SICK.

What can our butter bean do? What can't she do really. She learns SO MUCH from her big sister, and that's so awesome to us. She can officially go up and down the stairs by herself... has been for a while now. Bryan hates to see her try... she's taken quite a few falls, but I love to see her trying to be a big girl. She's able to takes shirts off and put pants/socks/shoes on by herself. EG has quite the fashion sense and will tell me if the outfit I've picked out for her is cute or not. She also likes to look at clothing at stores to tell me what she likes. She's quite the ham. She talks SO MUCH WE CAN'T TAKE IT! There isn't a day that goes by that she's not saying something new. I remember Reese speaking all the time, but not this much. Emma Grace is already saying complete sentences. Ones we hear often are "I want that one." and "Help me Mommy please." :) Emma Grace can also use "please, thank you, you're welcome," and "excuse me" correctly. She loves to sing. I'm constantly hearing her sing her "ABC song" (she can get a few chunks of letters that are clear as day too!) and "Twinkle Twinkle" (she knows the whole thing). While counting she can say "8,9,10". As far as shapes and colors... she knows circle, star, heart, yellow, blue, green, and orange. When learning a new color everything is that new color. She learns orange, and everything is orange. She learns green, and everything is green... even if it's something she knows... like orange. But then she'll randomly see something and tell me the correct color. Reese did the same thing... VERY INTERESTING. She's eating much better these days. More veggies (if there is ketchup to dip) and chicken have made quite a few appearances and disappearances. Thank goodness... I was afraid she was going to be a vegetarian. :)Potty update... there isn't one. :) She wants to sit on the potty ALL THE TIME but isn't much interested in actually going in it. She's gone a grand total of ONCE since I posted about her getting her sticker. Emma Grace is quite in love with the potty, which is WAY further than we were with Reese at this point... and she trained very quickly once she was ready, so we're feeling very optimistic. We're also working on timeout with Emma Grace. It's going GREAT! Well, minus the fact that we've had to use timeout. She AUTOMATICALLY goes in for hitting, biting (it's reared it's ugly head again... not nearly as often as when she was a baby, but she did take a chunk out of my thigh at Art Class the other day), and pulling Reese's hair. They'll be so fun when they're teenagers. ;) She must stay there for 1 minute, and has finally gotten the hang of actually STAYING THERE FOR 1 MINUTE. She used to try to crawl out VERY quietly and slowly saying in a whisper "I'm coming... I'm coming Mommy." I couldn't help but giggle. Emma Grace is super sweet and beyond adorable, so we've decided she can stay... at least until she's 3. :)

Tinkle tinkle

Hey y'all. Can you see my sticker? Yeah I'm pretty bada$$... I peed in the potty tonight. I got an m&m too. But I'm hardly an amateur... this was my second time... I mean seriously. Mommy and Daddy have picked up on my cues... I like to put my hands down my pants a la Al Bundy when I have to "go." This evening, I did just that, Mommy asked me if I needed to use the potty, I said yes, I went... the rest is history. For the record I've also pooped on the floor twice and peed on the floor three times... awesome. I've kept my diaper dry during naps for nearly a week, so now we'll get a little more serious on this whole potty training thing... but just a little...

18 months old

Emma Grace Emma Grace Emma Grace... oh how I love this child. She is honestly the most inquisitive, sweet, mischievous child ever. While she turned 18 months December 19th, we don't have her appointment until Monday... we should have all measurements then. Other than that I can tell you she appears to be your everyday run of the mill 18 month old. She's little miss independent in every way possible. She doesn't want help doing anything... she's been working specifically on walking down the stairs while holding onto the railing and getting dressed by herself. She's become interested in puzzles and can match where the pieces go on Reese's M&D puzzle (but can't get them in all the way), and she's just about perfected all of her shape sorters.

Emma Grace is sooooooo verbal it's frightening. As honest as I'm sitting here she knows WAY MORE words than I'm going to list here. In fact after this, I'm done with the lists because I can not keep up. I understand about 95% of what she says, which is such a relief to me. Not only can I understand her, but she completely understands us... awesome squared. She's also beginning to string 2 words together. Okay here is the list... bump (after which she gives you a fist bump), cow (and moos), her favorite favorite thing to say is puppy dog (and barks), peepaboo (peekaboo), shhhh (fish), mines (mine), again, bobot (robot), kikky kat (and meows), chair, ticka ticka (tickle), duck (stuck), yee haw, paper (newspaper), dessed (dressed), wa-er (water), tee (tree), welcome (which she says instead of thank you), dankdo (thank you, which she says but not when she's supposed to), nake (snake), fower (flower), what?, ogur (yogurt), what happen? (ed), boo (blue... which she can identify), bag, hit, coke (coat), empty, boop (boot), monk (monkey), cayon (crayon), ride, nack (snack), ho ho (Santa), pu-er (computer), pig, Yek (Shrek), dunkay (donkey), whoa!, Winton (Winston), Gangy (Grandaddy), Gampa (Grandpa), brocci (broccoli), pyate (plate), pants, hands, ince (prince), incess (princess), nightgown, mimi mess (big big mess), and so so so much more. She knows where all of her facial features are including teeth and hair... we've also added hands, feet, and toes. She loves painting, playing play doh, playing dress up, BOOKS, doing everything Reese does, baths, eating... but not at the table, her lovie and blanket, most fruits, going to timeout with Reese, and baby dolls.
She hates most veggies, and when you tell her no (she's begun FULL ON temper tantrums... awesome).
Potty training. We brought out Reese's old potties, and EG LOVES to sit on them... especially when Reese is using the big potty. EG tells us when she has to go potty or is going a good chunk of the time but has yet to actually go on the potty herself. We'll take it as it comes...

What's Emma Grace been up to?

Rachel here. Emma Grace is all over the place. I put tasks on her shelves only to have her throw them on the floor, and then she meanders around the house to get into shenanigans... or she does the things on Reese's shelves... and by does the things on Reese's shelves, I mean she throws those things on the floor as well. :)

Next week I'm going to put the crayon tin on her shelf, and she'll ignore it. Last week, she poured every single one on the floor... repeatedly. She managed to put a handful of them back in the can, but as soon as I put the can back under the easel, she would pour them back onto the floor. She's such a charmer that one.
She does the same thing with Reese's Little Miss Sunshine band aid tin.

This is a hammering toy, but Em just likes to put the pieces in the holes.
Our generic Melissa & Doug magnetic bug puzzle. It was on sale at Michael's for $2. Reese loves them, and Emma definitely gets a kick out of anything Reese does.
The girls both love the pea pod seesaw at the library, and when I saw this brand new IKEA model at the consignment sale for $4 I knew I had to have it.
EG can get the animals to the correct spots on her puzzle, but she definitely can't quite get them in the holes yet.
Emma Grace is big into wearing things around her neck. She's always digging in the dress up drawer to accessorize.
If she doesn't find what she wants... she wears her sister's underpants... seriously. (And yes, those are Christmas pajamas... I'm getting my money's worth this go 'round.)
This week I introduced the color orange to go with all of our Halloween shenanigans. You can really tell she's learning a lot... taking it all in. ;)
Halloween "rattles."
Emma Grace loves to play with her basket of gourds. She tends to lick them and pretend they are ice cream cones. She'll lick it and then say "Mmmm... nunny!"
I can't tell you how many jam sessions/dance parties we had this week.
The girls play with play doh every. single. day. without. failure.
Each of the three pumpkin baskets had Fall/Halloween trinkets in them. One had bouncy eyeballs, one had silk Fall leaves, and the last had glow in the dark spiders.
Em's new favorite thing is sitting on the potty, which is more than I can say Reese would do FOR THE LONGEST TIME. I sat her on it the other day just to see what she would do. Now she wants to be on it all the time. She'll come up to me, touch her diaper, and say "potty." I strip her down, and then she just pops a squat and relaxes. She brushes her teeth, reads, you name it... except for actually using it. :) It's REALLY REALLY cute.
Emma Grace loves to pull Reese's tasks off of her shelf and attempt to do them herself. She mocks us all big time, but never gets it quite right. ;)
Painting with REAL paint... washable of course.
All hail Crayola and their Color Wonder products!
She REALLY dug dumping the spiders out of the jar and then putting them back in. :)
I have a few more activities that Reese did last Friday to post, but we have a busy weekend of marathon trick or treating, AND Bryan and I have promised one another to have a computer free weekend. That means after nap time tomorrow I leave the world of cyber until Sunday evening. So until then... HAPPY HAUNTING!
